Janet Palin, Pastel Landscape artist heading

Janet Palin has lived in New England for more than 40 years. For more than 25 years, she was an oil painter, mostly working with the figure and still life. A trip to Iceland changed all that. She abandoned her much loved oils and started using the completely new medium of dry pastels. Three years later, Janet made her first trip to New Mexico, seeking the vastness and power that had impressed her in the Icelandic landscape. She has since made yearly trips to paint in the Southwest. Janet divides her work time between on site work in the West in the fall and studio work the rest of the year, working from material she brings back from her travels. Some of her work is done from start to finish on site, some is started on site and changed or finished in the studio, and some (the largest pieces) can only be done completely in the studio.

Janet graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting in 1969. Since then she has been a working artist and taught art in a number of settings. Janet has shown mainly in New England and New Mexico. She is a member of the Oxbow Gallery in Northampton, MA.
